Prof. David Caudill of Villanova School of Law will present on the ethical responsibilities of attorneys, seen through the lens of literature. Using the example of Mr. Andrews within Colson Whitehead's The Nickel Boys, Prof. Caudill will look at the responsibilities of attorneys in seeking justice for their clients and for the legal system as a whole.

Professor Caudill, at Villanova since 2005, taught Professional Responsibility for 25 years, has drafted ethics questions for the California Bar Exam, and is a frequent CLE ethics speaker. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (1989), a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center (1981), and a B.A. in Philosophy from Michigan State University (1974). He taught at Washington and Lee University School of Law from 1989 to 2005. Prior to that appointment, he clerked for Judge John R. Brown in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit (1981-1982), and practiced law in San Diego (1982-1985) and Austin (1986-1989). He is the author of 8 books and over 100 law review articles and book chapters in the fields of legal ethics, property law, law and science, and law and literature.
